Who Can Apply

• Must be an Aboriginal Community-controlled, not-for-profit organisation working with Aboriginal communities in New South Wales • Eligible entity types include Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander corporations, Australian incorporated companies, Local Aboriginal Land Councils, and incorporated associations • Unincorporated Aboriginal community groups may apply only through an eligible auspice organisation • Applicants must be located in New South Wales and/or deliver services to communities within New South Wales • Applicants must hold public liability insurance of at least $10000000 per claim • Federal and state government agencies and bodies are not eligible • Local councils are not eligible • Schools, universities, TAFE and Adult and Community Education providers are not eligible • For-profit organisations, including Aboriginal businesses, are not eligible • Unincorporated groups without an eligible auspice organisation are not eligible • Organisations with unmet acquittal or reporting obligations from ALT or Aboriginal Affairs NSW funding in the previous two years are not eligible • Organisations with redress sanctions under the National Redress Scheme are not eligible
Applicants must be Aboriginal Community-controlled, not-for-profit organisations working with Aboriginal communities in New South Wales. Eligible organisation types include Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander corporations registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006, companies incorporated in Australia under the Corporations Act 2001, Local Aboriginal Land Councils under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW), and incorporated associations. Unincorporated Aboriginal community groups may apply only through an eligible not-for-profit auspice organisation of one of those types. Applicants must be located in New South Wales and/or deliver services to communities within New South Wales, and must hold public liability insurance of at least $10 million per claim. Ineligible applicants include federal and state government agencies and bodies, local councils, schools, universities, TAFE and ACE providers, for-profit organisations including Aboriginal businesses, unincorporated groups without an eligible auspice, organisations with unmet acquittal or reporting obligations from ALT or Aboriginal Affairs NSW funding in the previous two years, and organisations with redress sanctions under the National Redress Scheme.

Eligible activities include community gatherings, festivals, fundays, public exhibitions, language workshops, language classes, and language-themed sporting or arts activities or competitions that celebrate and promote Aboriginal Languages in New South Wales. Funding can cover materials and consumables, catering excluding alcohol, facilitator and Elder payments, and venue or equipment hire directly related to the event or activity.

Expected Outcomes

Funded projects are expected to deliver activities during NSW Aboriginal Languages Week that raise awareness of Aboriginal Languages, showcase language achievements, support language revitalisation, encourage participation in language learning, and connect communities to language education and employment opportunities. Successful applicants must complete the activity, acknowledge funding support, and submit reporting and acquittal evidence within 30 days of project completion.
