Beta Docs was founded by two people who have collectively secured hundreds of millions of dollars in competitive grant funding, across academia, government, and industry.
Alban de Vaucorbeil and Adrian Yong bring together deep experience from research, government, startups, and large-scale grant programs. What unites them is a shared frustration: the grant process is essential—but unnecessarily time-consuming and inefficient.
We didn't set out to build "AI for the sake of AI." We built the tool we wished we had when we were writing grants ourselves.

Adrian brings extensive experience from the space, defence, and startup ecosystems, where grant funding is often mission-critical.
Previously, Adrian was the Director of Deloitte Space, Australia's leading space consultancy, advising aerospace companies, government agencies, and startups on commercialisation, strategy, and market entry. Before that, he served as Satellite Strategy and Space Capture Lead at Gilmour Space, driving revenue growth and expanding the company's footprint in defence and satellite markets.
Adrian is also a seasoned entrepreneur, having founded a multi-million-dollar prop-tech startup that digitised the rental market. This experience sharpened his ability to identify real market pain points and build teams that deliver practical, scalable solutions.
Across his career, Adrian has been directly responsible for securing over $160 million AUD in grant funding. Like Alban, he felt the inefficiency and friction of the grant process—especially at scale. That shared pain, across very different sectors, became a powerful catalyst for Beta Docs.

He holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering and was awarded a prestigious Australian Research Council DECRA, recognising the next generation of research leaders in Australia.
Across his career, Alban has secured $633,000 AUD in competitive research funding, maintaining a strong success rate across multiple grant schemes.
Like many researchers, Alban experienced firsthand how grant writing—while critical to shaping strong research projects—can become dominated by repetitive formatting, compliance checks, and administrative detail. Too much time was spent on "petty tasks," and not enough on research itself.
With the rapid advancement of generative AI, Alban saw an opportunity: what if technology could handle the repetitive, mechanical parts of grant writing, while researchers focused on ideas, impact, and excellence? That question became the foundation of Beta Docs.
