Who Can Apply

Must be a multicultural or multilingual media organisation operating in Victoria. Must have a current ABN and have operated in the multicultural media space for more than 12 months. Eligible entity types include incorporated associations, cooperatives, companies, not-for-profits and discretionary trusts. Mainstream media organisations are ineligible; sole traders may apply via an eligible auspice organisation.
Multicultural and multilingual community media organisations operating in Victoria could apply. Mainstream media organisations were not eligible. Eligible entity types included incorporated associations, incorporated cooperatives, not-for-profit entities registered under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) or the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (Vic), companies incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001, and discretionary trusts as defined in the ITAA 1997. All organisations had to be multicultural or multilingual media organisations operating in Victoria, have a current ABN registered as an eligible entity type, have operated in the multicultural media space for more than 12 months, and have no outstanding accountability or final reports for any Multicultural Affairs grants. Both for-profit and not-for-profit organisations were eligible. Only one application per organisation would be considered. Sole traders and applicants without an eligible ABN could apply if supported by an eligible auspice organisation that agreed to manage the grant on their behalf.

Funding could be used for operating costs including up to 13 weeks of salaries, production costs such as printing, equipment purchases, and training and development to help multicultural media organisations manage COVID-19 impacts and recover. Eligible equipment included office equipment, streaming and recording equipment, editing suites, software, computers, digital radio studio equipment, podcasting equipment, and related production tools.

Expected Outcomes

Recipients were expected to improve financial viability, maintain or adapt multicultural media services, increase digital and online engagement capability, and deliver funded activities within the 2020-21 financial year with all funds expended before 31 October 2021.
