Eligible new or used battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) under 4.5 tonne gross vehicle mass, including motorcycles, with a dutiable value up to and including $78,000 were exempt from stamp duty in New South Wales. The exemption applied to NSW residents, organisations and businesses registering or purchasing eligible vehicles for personal or business use between 1 September 2021 and 31 December 2023. For applications lodged from 1 January 2024, applicants must provide proof of purchase, such as a contract to purchase, and proof of deposit payment where applicable, showing the purchase or deposit was made prior to 1 January 2024.
