Who Can Apply

- Must be an Australian-incorporated entity with an ABN and Australian bank account, operating as a licensed motor dealer/trader, associated service centre, or compliant EV repair business with qualified EV staff. - EV chargers must be fixed smart chargers or portable DC chargers purchased and (for fixed units) installed on or after 26 March 2024 at an eligible business site, with installation and safety assessments performed by a licensed electrician. - Eligible expenditure includes purchase and installation of smart EV chargers, purchase of portable DC chargers, electrical safety/load assessments, and up to $200 in third-party administrative fees, with a maximum rebate of $3,000 per plug or portable unit. - Total rebate is capped at $21,000 per eligible dealership or repairer site (including any administration fee), with applications assessed on a demand-driven basis until funding is exhausted.
You can apply if you are an eligible entity with an eligible project and eligible expenditure. Eligible entities must: have an Australian business number (ABN); have an account with an Australian financial institution; and be an entity incorporated in Australia. In addition, you must be one of the following: a licensed motor dealer/trader; a service centre associated with a licensed motor dealer/trader; or an automotive repair business that is compliant with Australian Standard 5732:2022 (EV operations – maintenance and repair) and has at least one current member of staff suitably qualified to undertake work on EVs. You cannot apply if you are any organisation not included in the eligible entities listed above, a business operating out of a residential premises, an organisation (or have a project partner) listed on the National Redress Scheme’s list of institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme, or an employer of 100 or more employees that has not complied with the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012. To be eligible for a rebate, you must have an eligible project. This means you must have purchased and installed at least one eligible fixed smart EV charger at an eligible site (as defined in section 4.2 of the grant opportunity guidelines) on or after 26 March 2024, or purchased a portable DC EV charging unit with a minimum expenditure of $2,500. Fixed EV charging units must meet smart requirements, having an online connection that allows monitoring, managing and adjusting of energy consumption, and must be installed by a licensed electrician. Portable DC EV charging units must be powered via an electrical outlet that has been assessed for safety and additional load by a licensed electrician. Portable AC EV chargers are not eligible. Chargers must be installed on the eligible business site; chargers installed outside the eligible site are not eligible. Eligible expenditure must be a direct cost incurred in purchasing and/or installing eligible smart EV charging units. Eligible expenditure may include: purchase of fixed smart EV charging units; installation of smart EV charging units by a licensed electrician; purchase of portable DC EV chargers; assessments by a licensed electrician of outlets or electrical infrastructure used by portable DC EV chargers; and third-party administrative fees for assisting in preparing the application (up to $200). Installation costs must have been incurred on or after 26 March 2024 and before the DRIVEN Charger Stream end date of June 2028. Not all costs incurred in installing EV charging units are eligible; the Program Delegate makes the final decision on eligible expenditure. The rebate is up to $3,000 per plug for installed smart EV chargers, capped at the total cost of purchase and installation, and up to $3,000 per portable DC EV charger with a minimum expenditure of $2,500 per unit. If expenditure on a portable DC unit is less than $2,500, it is not eligible; if between $2,501 and $2,999, the rebate is limited to the amount spent; for $3,000 or more, the rebate is capped at $3,000. The maximum rebate per eligible dealership or repairer site is $21,000, including any claim for the $200 administration fee. The $200 administration fee can only be claimed once per financial year per eligible site and only if the rebate is approved. Applicants who successfully applied in Round 1 and received less than $3,000 per plug may be eligible for a supplementary rebate under this round to bring their total rebate per plug to $3,000, subject to a new application. Chargers do not need to be publicly accessible; they may be for private and/or public use. Only one site can be applied for per application, but multiple applications can be made for the same site up to the site cap, and separate applications can be made for multiple eligible sites or for multiple manufacturers or businesses operating on the same site, subject to the program rules.
