Disaster Relief Grants support low-income New South Wales residents whose principal place of residence has been damaged by a declared natural disaster and who cannot recover costs through insurance or available assets. Who Can Apply

• Must be a low-income earner. • Must be unable to claim costs under insurance or be uninsured. • Damaged property must be the applicant's principal place of residence. • Damage must have been caused by a declared natural disaster. • It must be less than 6 months since the disaster, and the grant must support a safe and habitable return home. • Applicant must not have assets that could be used to support them post-disaster. • Renters can only apply for a Household Good Grant. • Cannot apply if able to claim under insurance. • Cannot apply if the damaged home is an investment property not lived in by the applicant. • Cannot apply if lack of maintenance caused the damage. • Cannot apply if the damage is minor and repairs are not essential to live in the property.

Applicants must not have realisable assets available to support themselves post-disaster. Renters may only apply for a Household Good Grant. Applicants cannot apply if they can claim under insurance, if the damaged home is an investment property they do not live in, if lack of maintenance caused the damage, or if the damage is minor and repairs are not essential for habitation.
