The 2024-2025 Cultural Grants Program provides funding to Aboriginal community organisations, groups and eligible Aboriginal sole traders or businesses in New South Wales to celebrate Aboriginal culture and deliver cultural events and activities. It supports projects that strengthen cultural expression, community wellbeing, healing, and intergenerational sharing of cultural knowledge.

Who Can Apply

• Must be a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation working with Aboriginal communities in New South Wales, or an eligible Aboriginal sole trader/business, or a not-for-profit unincorporated Aboriginal community group with an eligible not-for-profit auspice. • Eligible organisation types include Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander corporations, Australian companies, Local Aboriginal Land Councils, incorporated associations, incorporated cooperatives, and incorporated trustees on behalf of a trust. • Aboriginal sole traders or businesses must have a primary business activity related to cultural expression or revitalisation, and the funded project must not be profit-making in nature. • Applicants or auspice organisations must be eligible legal entities located in New South Wales, able to enter into a funding deed, and have an Australian bank account. • Must hold public liability insurance of at least $10 million per claim, or be willing to purchase it and include the cost in the budget. • Projects must take place within New South Wales and deliver a service to Aboriginal communities within New South Wales. • Individuals are not eligible unless they are eligible Aboriginal sole traders. • Non-Aboriginal groups or organisations are not eligible, except eligible auspice organisations supporting an unincorporated Aboriginal community group. • Incorporated not-for-profit organisations not controlled or operated by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are not eligible. • Federal and state government agencies and bodies, including New South Wales public schools and hospitals, are not eligible. • Unincorporated organisations or groups without an eligible auspicing organisation are not eligible. • Organisations that have not acquitted or reported on previous Aboriginal Affairs NSW grant funding in the previous two years are not eligible. • Organisations with redress sanctions under the National Redress Scheme are not eligible.
To be eligible, applicants must be not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations working with Aboriginal communities in New South Wales and be one of the following: an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth), a company incorporated in Australia under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), a Local Aboriginal Land Council under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW), an Incorporated Association, an Incorporated Cooperative, or an incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust. Eligible applicants may also be an Aboriginal sole trader or business whose primary business activity relates to cultural expression or revitalisation, provided the project is not profit-making in nature, or a not-for-profit unincorporated Aboriginal community group with an eligible not-for-profit auspice. Applicants or their auspice organisation must be an eligible legal entity located in New South Wales, able to enter into a funding deed with Aboriginal Affairs NSW, and have an Australian bank account. They must have public liability insurance of at least $10 million per claim or be willing to purchase it and include the cost in the project budget. Projects must take place within New South Wales and deliver a service to Aboriginal communities within New South Wales. Ineligible applicants include individuals unless they are eligible Aboriginal sole traders, non-Aboriginal groups or organisations except eligible auspice organisations, incorporated not-for-profit organisations not controlled or operated by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, federal and state government agencies and bodies including New South Wales public schools and hospitals, unincorporated organisations or groups without an eligible auspicing organisation, organisations that have not met project requirements for previous Aboriginal Affairs NSW grants in the previous two years, and organisations with redress sanctions under the National Redress Scheme.

Funding can support Aboriginal cultural events and activities in New South Wales, including consumables such as catering and materials, equipment hire, facilitators, trainers and teachers, eligible state-wide or regional Aboriginal sporting and cultural events, minor equipment up to $5000, project administration up to 10% of the grant, limited remuneration costs for eligible sole trader/business applicants, and merchandise such as hats, t-shirts, trophies and medals up to 10% of requested funding.
