Who Can Apply

• Must be a First Nations group or organisation recognised as a Murray–Darling Basin Traditional Owner or able to demonstrate traditional connection to the relevant Basin area. • Must have an active ABN, or partner with a group that has one to hold funds. • Joint applications are allowed but must nominate a lead organisation. • Funding cannot be used to purchase water entitlements, water infrastructure or land.
Applicants must be First Nations groups or organisations recognised as Murray–Darling Basin Traditional Owners, or able to demonstrate a traditional connection to the relevant Basin area. Applicants must have an Australian Business Number, although a group without an ABN may work with another group that has one to hold funds. Murray–Darling Basin First Nations groups may partner with another group to deliver an eligible project, and joint applications must nominate a lead organisation. Projects must align with the program objectives and funding cannot be used to purchase water entitlements, water infrastructure or land.

Eligible activities include developing, updating or completing cultural flows plans; setting up and running working groups; technical report writing; monitoring and evaluation; research and field work such as surveys, mapping and water models; water infrastructure planning; business planning; and improving governance structures.

Expected Outcomes

Expected deliverables include completed cultural flows plans, stronger governance arrangements, business plans and improved capacity for Basin First Nations to influence water management and ownership while caring for Country.
