Applicants had to be invited to apply by their local Federal Member of Parliament. Projects had to be small, community-led environmental projects addressing local environmental priorities. Projects could not be funded by another Commonwealth, state, territory or local government grant for the same activities. Projects had to be completed by 31 December 2020 and located within one of the 151 federal electorates.
Funding was available for small, community-led environment projects located within each of the 151 federal electorates across Australia. Potential applicants and projects were identified in consultation with the local community, and applicants could only apply if they were invited to do so by their local Federal Member of Parliament. Projects had to address local environmental priorities and could not receive funding from another Commonwealth, state, territory or local government grant for the same project. Applicants could apply for multiple government programs, but if successful in more than one, they had to choose either the Communities Environment Program grant or the other government grant. Projects could start from the date the application was submitted but were undertaken at the applicant’s own risk before a grant agreement was executed. All projects had to be completed by 31 December 2020.
