This New South Wales grant program funds local councils and related regional bodies to prepare coastal management programs, undertake coastal vulnerability mapping, and implement certified coastal management and emergency action plan activities. Funding is offered across planning, implementation and emergency works streams to improve management of coastal and estuarine environments.

Who Can Apply

• Eligible applicants include local councils, county councils, joint organisations established under an Act of Parliament, and incorporated regional organisations of councils. • Where multiple councils collaborate, one eligible council, joint organisation or regional organisation of councils must be the lead applicant. • Public land managers may only apply in partnership with a lead council or other eligible organisation, which must be the principal applicant. • For Streams 2 to 6, actions generally must be identified in a certified coastal management program or coastal zone emergency action subplan, except exempt activities and Stream 2 coastal vulnerability area mapping. • Applicant co-contributions must be monetary and cannot include in-kind or voluntary contributions. • Matching funds cannot come from other New South Wales or Commonwealth programs. • For Streams 1 to 5, retrospective projects, projects already underway, already tendered, contractually committed or completed are not eligible. • GST, budget contingencies, routine operating costs and business-as-usual staffing costs are not eligible. • Maintenance of completed projects and maintenance of existing infrastructure are generally not eligible, except certain priority replacement or upgrade works noted in a certified coastal management program. • Projects funded or under consideration through a natural disaster relief declaration are not eligible. • Various private-benefit, amenity-only, catchment-area, biobanking, repeat monitoring and non-cost-effective projects are excluded.
Eligible applicants are local councils, county councils, joint organisations established under an Act of Parliament, and incorporated regional organisations of councils. Where multiple councils work together within the same coastal sediment compartment or estuary, one eligible organisation must act as the lead agency. Public land managers such as a Crown reserve trust or location-specific New South Wales government authority may participate only in partnership with a lead council or other eligible organisation, with that eligible organisation as principal applicant. For Streams 2 to 6, actions generally must be identified in a certified coastal management program or coastal zone emergency action subplan, except exempt activities and Stream 2 coastal vulnerability area mapping. Matching contributions must be monetary and cannot include in-kind support or funding from other New South Wales or Commonwealth programs. Retrospective projects, maintenance-only works, certain amenity works, private-benefit protection works, projects already funded under natural disaster relief declarations, and various other listed non-eligible costs and activities are excluded.
