The Breast Imaging Advanced Trainee Grant supports future diagnostic specialists and Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology to undertake subspecialty training in breast imaging in New South Wales. Who Can Apply

• Applicant must be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), or a Registrar who has completed and passed Phase 2 of RANZCR training requirements and is in Phase 3/final year of training. • Registrar applicants must have completed 8 weeks / 80 sessions in a diagnostic department or in a breast screen and assessment unit. • Applicant must be available to commence the traineeship in 2026. • Applicant must demonstrate highly developed diagnostic skills, empathy, communication ability, commitment to multidisciplinary cancer care, research capability, teaching ability, and understanding of cancer radiology developments. • Applicant must provide evidence of being a resident of New South Wales during the traineeship. • Applicant must provide evidence of being affiliated with or a Fellow of RANZCR. • Applicant must provide evidence of appropriate AHPRA registration to allow clinical practice. • The program must be hosted in an institution within the New South Wales Health public sector services and/or a hospital providing services for, and/or linked to BreastScreen NSW. • The supervisor must demonstrate successful mentorship of trainees within the last five years, capacity to mentor the trainee and supervise research, and a developed breast imaging training and research plan. • The administering institution must demonstrate ability to train specialists and registrars in diagnostic breast radiology over the last five years, capacity to provide a diagnostic practice appointment, and capacity to support the proposed research project.
Applications are invited from Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), and from Registrars who have completed and passed Phase 2 of the RANZCR training requirements, including 8 weeks or 80 sessions in a diagnostic department or breast screen and assessment unit, and who are in their Phase 3 or final year of training. The program is offered in institutions within the NSW Health public sector services and/or hospitals providing services for, and/or linked to BreastScreen NSW. Advanced trainees must demonstrate diagnostic skills, empathy, communication ability, commitment to multidisciplinary cancer care, research capability, teaching ability, understanding of cancer radiology developments, and availability to commence the traineeship in 2026. Supervisors must demonstrate successful mentorship of trainees within the last five years, capacity to mentor and supervise research, and a developed training and research plan. Administering institutions must demonstrate ability to train specialists and registrars in diagnostic breast radiology over the last five years, capacity to provide a diagnostic practice appointment, and support for the proposed research project. Required evidence includes NSW residency during the traineeship, affiliation with or Fellowship of RANZCR, relevant radiology qualification or completion of Phase 2 and final-year status, and appropriate AHPRA registration for clinical practice.
