This program is for small to medium enterprises. Universities are not eligible to apply, although they may participate as project partners to an eligible lead applicant. Applicants controlled by a Publicly Funded Research Organisation, including university spin-offs with at least 40 per cent university ownership, must have annual turnover in isolation of less than $20 million for each of the three financial years prior to lodgement of the application. To be eligible, the project must test the feasibility of a solution to one of the specified challenges in the round. Only applicants that complete a successful feasibility project under this BRII round will be invited to apply for proof of concept funding. Multiple applications may be submitted, but an applicant can only be awarded one grant under this round. The grant does not require matched funding. If an applicant enters an agreement under the BRII program, they cannot receive other grants for the same project from other Commonwealth, State or Territory granting programs.
