Who Can Apply

Must have an ABN and be an eligible incorporated entity (company, incorporated association, incorporated trustee, not-for-profit or PFRA). Universities cannot apply as lead but may participate in consortia; tax-exempt entities are eligible. Joint applications are allowed, with a single eligible lead organisation responsible for the grant. Applicants must demonstrate capacity to co-design and deliver a large national scholarship program with industry co-funding and meet all three program objectives.
To be eligible, applicants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be one of the following entity types: an entity incorporated in Australia and a trading corporation whose trading activities form a significant or substantial part of its overall activities; an incorporated trustee applying on behalf of a trust; an incorporated association; an incorporated not-for-profit organisation; or a publicly funded research agency (PFRA) as defined in the program guidelines. Joint (consortia) applications are welcome, but the department will enter into a single grant agreement with a lead organisation. The lead organisation must be an eligible entity and will be responsible for meeting all milestones under the grant agreement. Publicly Funded Research Organisations such as universities are not eligible to apply as the lead organisation but may participate as partners in a joint application. Tax-exempt entities are eligible to apply. Applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant experience, skills and knowledge in STEM, research or industry sectors; capacity and capability to manage a large, multi-year project and budget; and appropriate governance and financial management. They must provide a detailed plan for the co-design process, including stakeholder engagement and an implementation plan for the scholarship scheme to be delivered prior to 30 April 2022, as well as a detailed project budget covering co-design and scholarship delivery costs. Industry co-funding of scholarships is a required element of the program, with the exact nature and scale of contributions to be determined through co-design. The project must meet all three program objectives: increasing women’s participation in STEM tertiary education (including retraining and returners), supporting women to build industry-relevant skillsets and become mentors and role models, and stimulating an increase in women in senior leadership and decision-making positions across government, research organisations, industry and businesses.
