Who Can Apply

Must have an active Australian Business Number (ABN). Host institutions apply on behalf of researchers or students for most streams; individuals may apply only for the Non-Salaried Researcher Grant. Eligible entities include incorporated Australian entities, co-operatives, partnerships, publicly funded research organisations, government bodies and individuals. Projects must undertake taxonomy research aligned to at least one ABRS priority area and include eligible research expenditure.
Applicants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be either an appropriate host institution submitting on behalf of a Principal Investigator or scholarship student for all streams except the Non-Salaried Researcher Grant, or an individual submitting a Non-Salaried Researcher Grant application. Eligible entity types include entities incorporated in Australia, Indigenous organisations registered with the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations, co-operatives, partnerships, publicly funded research organisations, Australian local government agencies or bodies, Australian State or Territory Government agencies or bodies, Australian Commonwealth Government agencies or bodies, and individuals. Individual applicants must be at least 18 years old and provide proof of identity. Incorporated associations or not for profit organisations without active state or territory incorporated association registration or ACNC registration must provide constitutional documents or articles of association. Partnerships must provide a partnership agreement. Projects must fit within the relevant stream duration and be aimed at undertaking research into at least one of the three Priority Areas for Research Grants listed in the Australian Biological Resources Study grant opportunity guidelines. Eligible expenditure includes travel costs, stipends and fieldwork expenses, direct labour and on-costs, equipment expenditure, training and research costs.
