Who Can Apply

• Applicant must be a current or former member of the Australian Defence Force. • Applicant may be eligible if the Office of the Special Investigator or the Australian Federal Police has asked them to provide evidence. • Applicant may be eligible if they have been asked or compelled by the court, prosecution or defence to provide evidence in criminal proceedings related to the AFP/OSI Afghanistan investigation. • Applicant may be eligible if they have been charged with a crime related to matters that are the subject of the AFP/OSI Afghanistan investigation. • Applicant may be eligible if they have been served with a Potentially Affected Person Notice by the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force, or a similar notice by another relevant authority, relating to the AFP/OSI Afghanistan investigation.
Legal financial assistance may be provided to current and former members of the Australian Defence Force for reasonable legal representation and disbursement costs if they can demonstrate that the Office of the Special Investigator or the Australian Federal Police has asked them to provide evidence; or they have been asked or compelled by the court, prosecution or defence to provide evidence in criminal proceedings relating to matters that are the subject of the AFP/OSI Afghanistan investigation; or they have been charged with a crime in relation to matters that are the subject of the AFP/OSI Afghanistan investigation; or they have been served with a Potentially Affected Person Notice by the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force, or a similar notice by another relevant authority, in relation to matters that are the subject of the AFP/OSI Afghanistan investigation.
