The Aboriginal Languages Sector Development Program 2025 provides grants to eligible Aboriginal Language Organisations in New South Wales to stabilise operations, create sustainable jobs for Aboriginal Language workers, and reclaim and revitalise Aboriginal Languages. Funding supports workforce and operational needs for the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026.

Who Can Apply

• Applicant must be a New South Wales-based Aboriginal Language Organisation whose primary activities relate to revitalisation and transmission of New South Wales Aboriginal Languages. • Applicant must be an incorporated not-for-profit Aboriginal Community organisation. • Eligible entity types include: 51% or more Aboriginal Owned and Controlled charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission; 51% or more Aboriginal Owned and Controlled not-for-profit organisation that commits to applying for Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission registration before funding agreement; New South Wales Local Aboriginal Land Council; or Aboriginal Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006. • Applicant must have an Australian Business Number and be registered for Goods and Services Tax. • Applicant must hold current and valid public liability insurance of 10000000 per individual claim. • Applicant must have received 2 previous grants from the Aboriginal Languages Trust under the Sustainable Funding Program and/or Partnership Funding Program. • Applicant must be able to provide acquittal documentation for at least 2 previous Aboriginal Languages Trust grants. • Applicant must provide a Community Languages Plan or Organisational Strategic Plan, or a combined plan. • Applicant must provide evidence of local and/or regional community engagement in development of the plan. • Ineligible applicants include individuals and sole traders. • Ineligible applicants include federal, state or local government agencies and bodies, including public schools and hospitals. • Ineligible applicants include schools, universities, TAFE, adult education and adult and community education organisations. • Ineligible applicants include for-profit organisations, including Aboriginal businesses. • Ineligible applicants include unincorporated organisations or groups. • Ineligible applicants include organisations that have not met Aboriginal Languages Trust project requirements, including acquittal and reporting, for funding received in the previous two years. • Ineligible applicants include organisations found to have provided false or misleading information in previous Aboriginal Languages Trust grant applications. • Applicants cannot apply through an auspice arrangement if they are otherwise ineligible.
Eligible applicants are New South Wales-based Aboriginal Language Organisations that are incorporated not-for-profit Aboriginal Community organisations whose primary activities relate to the revitalisation and transmission of New South Wales Aboriginal Languages. Applicants must be either a 51% or more Aboriginal Owned and Controlled charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, a 51% or more Aboriginal Owned and Controlled not-for-profit organisation that commits to applying for Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission registration before the funding agreement, a New South Wales Local Aboriginal Land Council under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW), or an Aboriginal Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth). Applicants must have an active Australian Business Number, be registered for Goods and Services Tax, hold current public liability insurance of $10000000 per individual claim, have received two previous grants from the Aboriginal Languages Trust under the Sustainable Funding Program and/or Partnership Funding Program, be able to provide acquittal documentation for at least two previous grants, and provide a Community Languages Plan or Organisational Strategic Plan with evidence of local and/or regional community engagement. Ineligible applicants include individuals, sole traders, government agencies and bodies, schools, universities, TAFE and adult education organisations, for-profit organisations, unincorporated groups, organisations with unmet Aboriginal Languages Trust reporting or acquittal requirements in the previous two years, and organisations found to have provided false or misleading information in previous Aboriginal Languages Trust grant applications.

Funded activities include employment of Aboriginal Language Organisation staff, professional development, staff travel, salaries and overheads, board and governance costs excluding sitting fees, business administration, accounting and financial services, licensing and insurances, and minor facilities and building maintenance such as rent, power and water.
