Who Can Apply

• Applicant must be an Aboriginal organisation that is an incorporated legal entity, or a social enterprise specifically supporting Aboriginal communities in bushfire recovery • Applicant must have a current Australian Business Number (ABN), unless applying through an eligible auspice organisation • Applicant must be able to report project outcomes and activities to Emergency Recovery Victoria • Applicant must have no outstanding acquittals for previous government grant programs • For stream one cultural heritage projects, applicant's Country must have been directly impacted by the 2019–20 bushfires • Unincorporated organisations or those without an ABN may apply through an eligible auspice organisation • State and Federal government agencies cannot apply • Individuals and sole traders cannot apply • Unincorporated community organisations cannot apply directly • Commercial enterprises cannot apply alone, but may partner or sponsor • Fixed trusts cannot apply • Local Government Authorities, schools, preschools, TAFEs and universities cannot apply directly, but may act as auspice organisations
Eligible applicants had to be either an Aboriginal organisation that is an incorporated legal entity under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2001 (Vic), or the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth), or a social enterprise with a clearly stated purpose specifically supporting Aboriginal communities in bushfire recovery. Applicants had to have a current ABN, be capable of reporting outcomes and activities to ERV, and have no outstanding acquittals for previous government grants. For stream one cultural heritage projects, applicants also had to have Country directly impacted by the 2019–20 bushfires. Organisations without incorporation or an ABN could apply if supported by an eligible auspice organisation managing the grant. Ineligible applicants included state and federal government agencies, individuals and sole traders, unincorporated community organisations, commercial enterprises applying alone, fixed trusts, local government authorities, and registered schools, preschools, TAFEs and universities, although some of these could act as auspice organisations.

Expected Outcomes

Projects were expected to support trauma healing, strengthen recovery and resilience through Aboriginal culture and connection to Country, increase Aboriginal community capability to lead recovery and healing, and deliver direct benefits to communities affected by the 2019–20 Victorian bushfires.
