Who Can Apply

Must be an incorporated Aboriginal organisation or eligible social enterprise supporting Aboriginal bushfire recovery. Must have a current ABN and no outstanding acquittals for previous government grants. Stream one applicants must have Country directly impacted by the 2019–20 bushfires. Unincorporated groups may apply via an eligible auspice organisation.
Eligible applicants had to be either an Aboriginal organisation that is an incorporated legal entity under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2001 (Vic), or the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth), or a social enterprise with a clearly stated purpose or mission specifically supporting Aboriginal communities in bushfire recovery. Applicants had to have the capability to report to Emergency Recovery Victoria on project outcomes and activities, hold a current Australian Business Number, and have no outstanding acquittals for previous government grant programs. For stream one cultural heritage projects, applicants also had to have Country directly impacted by the 2019–20 bushfires. Organisations without incorporation or an ABN could apply if supported by an eligible auspice organisation that agreed to manage the grant. Ineligible applicants included state and federal government agencies, individuals and sole traders, unincorporated community organisations, commercial enterprises applying alone, fixed trusts, local government authorities, and registered schools, preschools, TAFE institutes and universities, although some of these could act as auspice organisations.
