The Aboriginal Affairs NSW Cultural Grants Program supports Aboriginal community organisations across New South Wales to celebrate Aboriginal culture and deliver key cultural events and activities. Funding supports projects that strengthen cultural expression, community wellbeing, healing, and intergenerational sharing of cultural knowledge.

Who Can Apply

• Must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community-controlled not-for-profit organisation working with Aboriginal communities in New South Wales, or an eligible Aboriginal sole trader/business, or an unincorporated Aboriginal community group with an eligible auspice organisation • Eligible organisation types include Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander corporations, Australian incorporated companies, Local Aboriginal Land Councils, incorporated associations, incorporated cooperatives, and incorporated trustees on behalf of a trust • Aboriginal sole trader or business applicants must have a primary business activity related to cultural expression or revitalisation, and projects must not be profit-making in nature • Unincorporated Aboriginal community groups must partner with an eligible not-for-profit auspice organisation • Must be able to enter into a funding agreement with Aboriginal Affairs NSW and have an Australian bank account • Must have public liability insurance of at least $10000000 per claim, or be willing to purchase it and include the cost in the project budget • Projects must take place within New South Wales and deliver a service to Aboriginal communities within New South Wales • Project should start by 2024-07-01 and must be completed by 2025-06-30 • Individuals are not eligible • Non-Aboriginal groups or organisations are not eligible, except eligible auspice organisations auspicing an unincorporated Aboriginal community group • Federal and state government agencies and bodies, including New South Wales public schools and hospitals, are not eligible • Unincorporated organisations or groups without an eligible auspice organisation are not eligible • Organisations that have not acquitted or reported on Aboriginal Affairs NSW grant funding in the previous 2 years are not eligible • Organisations with redress sanctions under the National Redress Scheme are not eligible
Applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community-controlled not-for-profit organisations working with Aboriginal communities in New South Wales and be one of the following: an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006, a company incorporated in Australia, a Local Aboriginal Land Council, an incorporated association, an incorporated cooperative, or an incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust. Eligible applicants may also be an Aboriginal sole trader or business whose primary business activity relates to cultural expression or revitalisation, provided projects are not profit-making in nature, or an unincorporated Aboriginal community group with an eligible not-for-profit auspice organisation. Applicants must be able to enter into a funding agreement with Aboriginal Affairs NSW, have an Australian bank account, and hold public liability insurance of at least $10 million per claim or include its purchase in the project budget. Projects must take place within New South Wales and deliver a service to Aboriginal communities within New South Wales. Ineligible applicants include individuals, non-Aboriginal groups or organisations except eligible auspice organisations, federal and state government agencies and bodies including New South Wales public schools and hospitals, unincorporated groups without an eligible auspice, organisations that have not met project requirements for Aboriginal Affairs NSW grants in the previous 2 years, and organisations with redress sanctions under the National Redress Scheme.

Eligible projects include Aboriginal cultural gatherings on Country, youth culture and wellbeing camps, digital installations about local Aboriginal history, statewide or regional music and cultural festivals, workshops, cultural events, and related project delivery costs such as consumables, equipment hire, facilitators, trainers, teachers, minor equipment, and limited administration or auspice fees.

Expected Outcomes
